So that went fast…

This is how I set and prioritize goals. Writing, then adding paint. It really does help.

As of this week, my little guy is one month old. I won’t bore you with long, insane details of new baby goodness. The basic details are this: my daughter is loving being a big sister, the baby is happy and healthy and I am healing up well. And, I have been fortunate enough to be able to work in a little bit more creative time every day. Here are a few things that have been happening here…

I love having all sorts of supplies lying around the house.

I made a really quick no-cook body butter. This kiddo was a bit meaner to me and left some stretch marks on the way out. They aren’t too bad, but I would still like to see them go. When my Dad visited last, he brought me a container of good quality shea butter. I stirred it together with coconut oil, apricot oil, grapefruit oil and some belly oil. Instead of adding wax and cooking it down like so many recipes, I just put everything in a nice warm bowl and stirred like crazy. The result is a nice, rich body balm. I have been using it for about two weeks now, and I am already seeing results, so I would call it a success.

My daughter has been spending a ton of time at her table in the living room. So there have been markers, stickers, puzzles and containers on play-doh in constant rotation. It has been really fun to watch her have so much fun and create so many different things.

An idea for a painting. I am imagining it as a night scene with lots of layering.

Even when I am nursing, I can still manage to get one hand free long enough to do a few quick drawings. I may be doing a quick draw mixed media piece for a fundraiser in February, and I also want to create a collage for some friends who are moving away. So doing quick thumbnails for both those projects is a good way to at least get some ideas on paper.

While I may not currently be spending as much time creating and writing as I want to, I know I will get there. As the whole family adjusts, my time will adjust to a new rhythm and I will get back into creating all sorts of fun colorful goodness. And I can’t wait to share!
