Wrapping up September by Being Late, Learning to Sit Down and Making Small Drawings

How’s THAT for a title? I don’t know if I ever mentioned my official due date for this little dude, but it was last Wednesday. After a few fun doctor’s appointments, the problem appears to be size. As in, there is nearly ten pounds of baby that can’t find an exit. Since I really don’t feel like testing my physical limits (and due to other details) I head in tomorrow for a c-section.

I won’t bore you with gory details since I am not a huge fan of medical overshares, especially related to childbirth. It tends to turn into one person one-upping the next. What I will say is this: I haven’t been a complete creative slug! During the amount of time I am sitting, I have been sketching and working on a journal for my little guy. I have also been crocheting a bit. When I do opt to stand up, I have been testing out some of the many recipes I have saved for someday. Tonight I made an Italian cream soup and these awesome garlic knots by Joy the Baker. It will be my last night cooking for a while, so I figured I better bring my a-game. It was super delish, if I do say so myself. And I pigged out a bit since starting at midnight, I can’t eat or drink anything in prep for surgery.

I made chili rellanos! And I didn't completely destroy them. I really need to work on the technique a bit, but these were damn good.

My husband keeps reminding me that I won’t be able to be up and about after tomorrow, and I am having a hard time wrapping my head around that fact. I have only had two other surgeries, both were outpatient and neither really restricted my movement that much. After surgery number one, I was back in class taking finals the next day. After number two, I spend the weekend painting my living room. So yes, this will be a hard lesson. To add to the fun, I won’t be able to go into my craft room for a while since it’s down a long flight of stairs. So it will be lots of drawing for me. And by lots of drawing, I mean ten minutes stolen here and there in between feedings.  But the hardest part will definitely be making other people do stuff for me.

Maybe this is strange, but I feel unnaturally proud of this drawing. My daughter did this totally on her own and told me it's a turtle. I don't think she could've gotten it any closer.

A night of sketching while watching Ink Master. I think all their talk of "backgrounds matter" was sinking into my brain.

I do plan on sharing pictures here though! As I get little seemingly piddly creative bits done, I want to share. The whole point of this blog is to encourage other people who are busy, parents or not. And since I have slow on that lately, I am hoping to make up some lost ground.

So please send prayers and good wishes our way tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully all turns out well!
