I’m Back!

My favorite feature of the park was by far all the hot water features. Geysers, steaming waterfalls and multicolored mineral deposits are all so amazing.

And I continued my habit of just disappearing for vacation instead of letting anyone here know. But it was worth it. The three of us took off and went to Lewis and Clark Caverns as well as Yellowstone Park. It’s sad that it took me so long to get to both since I really live so close, but I finally have them done. And that means one more thing off my 30 by 30 list.

I didn’t get as much sketching done on the road as I wanted. Usually I draw in the car, but it was making me a bit more nauseated than usual. So I gave up and took a huge number of pictures to sketch from later. Here are a few for those of you nowhere near Yellowstone.

I spent a lot of time watching my kid run down every path.

We got to see large wildlife...
We got to see large wildlife…
...and tiny wildlife.

The view from where we were camping. Thankfully, away from large crowds. Or really, any crowds at all.

As usual, coming back home was maybe not the most thrilling part of the trip, but it is offering me chances to catch up on some stuff. Tonight my big project was coloring in the doodles in my son’s baby book. Mostly because I am in no mood to leave my chair.

Markers, graphite pencils, oil pastels and colored pencils hard at work.

This is the first page, and it has been uncolored for way too long.

The bigger he gets, the more my back and tailbone revolt and make studio time hell. But tomorrow I have an ultrasound to determine if he is a big kid or if he is really due earlier than usual. And hopefully my husband will get another confirmation that he is indeed a boy. As if the last ultrasound wasn’t clear enough. I am just hoping maybe I can coax him out of my spine enough to get some painting done. We will see.
