Cute baby gear made even cuter

Little Lady's finished hat. Cute, but not babyish. And I love the color combos.

A plain white hat makes so much sense for my little girl. It will stay cooler and I can bleach dirt and grass stains out of it. But it’s soooo plain. But thanks to a week of light crafting, now this simple hat has some summer personality.

Crochet flowers are so easy and a great portable project. If you ever have no idea what to make, just make a bunch of them. They can easily be used to embellish gifts, clothing or jewelry at a later date.

I found a tutorial through Whipup for simple crochet flowers. They weren’t lying when they said simple. If you are new to crocheting round stuff, I highly recommend something like flowers for practice. They can be simple to create, and it doesn’t matter if they are a bit wonky looking (as you can see). I also added a modified chain embroidery stitch around the band part of the hat. I do still need to extend the strap, but I can’t do that until I find my elastic. But the decorations are done, so I am counting this as a success.

A note on decorating white things. Whether you use fabric or embroidery thread, always pre-wash your stuff. These cute little flowers could easily leave icky pink splotches on the hat. Not a major deal since this is a play hat, but a good thing to keep in mind. In my case, I made the flowers and threw them in a small jar. I added detergent and super hot water, shaking and rinsing until the water ran clear. Then I left them out to dry.

I may add a few more embellishments, but I am going to wait and see how I like it in action. I am hoping you all had equally fun and productive weekends. See you again tomorrow!
