Start Small: I Did Something, I Really Did Something

In case you could not tell from my Friday post or my general absence around here, I have been in a bit of a funk. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with all the projects I would like to do that it turns into a paralytic. I look at one project and say “I could do that…but I could also do this. Or this other thing. Or look up other ideas for fun projects…”. Then I fall into the internet and find more and more things I want to do, even though I have quite the long list already. And THEN I get mad at myself for looking and not doing.

Today I did manage to break out of that pattern a bit. I decorated the lampshade on an awesome lamp I have had for about two years. It came with a white lampshade which is pretty much an invite for play time. it almost devolved into waster time because I spent some time searching images for inspiration. But of course there are a billion great DIY lamp shades out there. So I finally just walked away from the computer, gathered supplies that were nearby and dove in.

I started with using a Sharpie to draw out a motif I use over and over again. Don’t know why, I just like it.

This is just the beginning of the colors spreading. It has progressed more and more as it dries out.

If I ever get around to “finishing” my living room, I want it to be blue, purple and lime green. So I chose those colors plus a grey and filled in each little shape. And then I added water…

I love my metallic markers so very much.

…and silver marker.

When it dries, I may add some trim. We will see. The important part is I made something better.
